Photography Contest Helps Downtown Businesses Hit Hard by Recession

A photography competition draws people downtown and reminds them of all that makes the downtown area unique.

(Boonton, NJ, September 17, 2010) — Point, shoot, and share is a simple concept that can get people excited about all their downtown has to offer.

The "Picture it Downtown" campaign in Ottawa, Ontario, encouraged residents to go downtown, snap a photo, and share it online. In doing so, residents shared their rich experiences and gave the city lots of photography to use royalty-free in its downtown marketing.

The September issue of Downtown Promotion Reporter provides details on the competition. Making it easy to enter and select winners was key to the programs success.

The photographers simply uploaded their photos to the contest website for a chance to win daily ($50), weekly ($250), and grand ($500 to $1,200) prizes. A computer selected prize winners randomly, with no judging involved.
