Redeeming downtown’s rooftops

(Boonton, NJ, April 3, 2006) — Among downtown’s under-appreciated resources are the older residential neighborhoods close to downtown, that can serve as a trade area for downtown and a nearby source of labor.

In the March 15 issue of Downtown Idea Exchange newsletter, John L. Gann, Jr., explains that if close-in neighborhoods were more creatively and aggressively marketed to appeal to a broader demographic of home buyers, in-town neighborhoods could do wonders for downtowns. For more people, downtown could become the most convenient place to work, shop, or recreate. The central reality missing from many of the revitalization programs of the past is that the more compelling we make downtown, and its nearby neighbors, the healthier our downtowns will become.
