Issuing an Effective RFP for Downtown Projects

(Boonton, NJ, April 2, 2009) — Downtowns frequently need to issue two or more Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to obtain a viable selection of suppliers for a given project.

Often, the RFPs are poorly written, vague, or unrealistic, so it's no surprise that not enough responses come in, and too often those that do are wildly overpriced or off base.

So what goes into a good RFP? According to David Wil-Alon Kutcher, president of Confluent Forms, and founder of the RFP Database, three important things:

  • Being able to define exactly what it is that you're looking for.
  • If someone asks for your budget, being able to tell them the anticipated budget for the project.
  • Being reasonable with your requirements for both responding to the proposal as well as what you actually need for the project.
