Capturing Tourist Dollars for Downtown
(Boonton, NJ, March 16, 2009) — Whether tourists come to the area to see historic sites and cultural venues, to attend a business meeting, or to celebrate the holidays with family, downtown has a unique opportunity to capture much needed tourism dollars for local businesses.
Retail marketing consultant, Barbara Wold, provides several techniques for attracting tourist and traveler dollars in the March issue of Downtown Promotion Reporter. Among them: Put out the red carpet for convention and tour groups.
One way to do this, says Wold, is to work with your convention and visitors bureau, to find out what tourist groups and conventions are coming in. "Then create some sort of signage program that you can distribute to all of your retailers and service providers such as welcome signs for store windows. People find that very impressive, and it does work."
